All webmasters are after SEO these days.For those who aren't much familiar with it,Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is a method of optimizing your content to make it search engine friendly,so that, you rank up high for that particular keyword in the search results.I don't claim to be an expert in SEO,but from what I know, I think it would be safe to say that SEO is really Bad for blogging.The more I get to know about SEO,the more I hate it, as a blogger.Why I feel so?Let me explain.

On-site SEO

This is a process by which your content is optimized for the search engines,mainly includes the keywords and internal linking.So basically what you are supposed to do is write a content and then vary the parameters to get the highest score for a particular keyword.So both the steps are crucial here for a high rank; well in fact, it would do you less harm if you fail in the first step(writing content) ; but should you fail in the second step (optimizing your content) , God save you and your blog.

People are quick to find exploits,aren't they?I have seen few people who go the other way round, ie. they first choose the best keywords(High searches and low competition) and make posts on it.

SEO interferes with every step of blogging.From selection of the topic to publishing a post.Blogging is supposed to be writing what you feel about a subject,but here, what you write is to please Big G.For example using a keyword for "x" number of times(though it may annoy your readers),highlighting it for no reason,just because it improves the SEO(on the contrary the ones which really need to be emphasized,can't be;as it decreases the over all score),blah blah.

Off-site SEO

Most of genuine bloggers might be clueless about what link building is.Can't blame them.They do what they are best at ie.Blogging; you can't expect every person to know each and every aspect.Such bloggers suffer with low traffic.(I agree they do build a good reader following, over a period of time,but they aren't valued for their content by search engines)

If you don't get the desired traffic you ought to, for the quality of content,you do get depressed and start spending more time on learning and practicing SEO than paying attention to the quality of your post.

Moreover,even if you some how manage to strike a balance between good blogging and decent SEO;the next thing you come to know is that Big G has changed its algorithm,so all you did was in vain.Talking about the recent change,how many of you are unhappy about it?

Making matters worse is plagiarism or duplicate content. I have seen so many cases, where the blog which has copied content, ranks high up,while the poor fellow who did all the hard work collecting the info, ends up with no traffic.The only reason being, the person who copied was good at SEO,though he didn't know a thing about the topic.

No matter how unfair it might look,its the bitter truth every blogger has to face. Saying so, I don't blame Google or any other search engine totally, because no matter how good their algorithm is, smart webmasters do find ways to exploit it.

God help Bloggers
